Highway Department
The Bureau County Highway Department is responsible for implementing a cost-effective program of engineering, construction, and maintenance of 220 miles of county highways and 55 bridges. The Highway Department coordinates with other agencies such as The Illinois Department of Transportation and Federal Highway Administration to provide an efficient and safe movement of people and goods throughout the county.
The Bureau County Highway Department’s website provides news and updates concerning on-going and prospective construction and maintenance projects on the county road system. The website has a calendar of events concerning the Highway Department’s meetings and activities. Also, the website has downloadable maps and permits. These permits include overweight permit, general construction highway permit and many others.
